Tactile
Maps for the Blind
Tactile
maps have many uses. A tactile map is a raised series of
lines and graphics used to represent areas of the building,
transit systems, shopping mall and any other applications
where a raised diagram can be used to inform persons with
visual impairments of the surrounding environment and features.
Tactile
maps are digitally designed and printed on bubble paper. When
the bubble paper is processed, it leaves the printed areas
raised which can be easily felt or read through by touch.
Tactile maps may also include braille and large print; therefore
persons with visual impairments can read and feel the information
being related about the intended building or environment.
